About The Artwork

My love for music, movies and the city of Chicago inspired my theater collection. I hope you can appreciate the detail, color selection and perspective work on the piece 12x12 Original art, on a 20" square frame and matted. Biograph Theater in Chicago. Designed by architect Samuel N. Crowen in 1914, the Biograph has many of the distinguishing characteristics of movie houses of the period, including a storefront-width lobby, recessed entrance, free-standing ticket booth, and canopy marquee. The building is finished with red pressed brick and white-glazed terra cotta. On July 22, 1934, after attending the film Manhattan Melodrama with brothel madam known as Anna Sage and Polly Hamilton, John Dillinger was shot dead outside the Biograph by FBI agents led by Melvin Purvis, when he attempted to pull a pistol and flee into the crowd after he saw them. Dillinger's whereabouts had been leaked to the FBI by Cumpănaş under the threat of deportation back to her birthplace of Romania. In July 2004, after 90 years as a movie theater under various owners, Chicago's Victory Gardens Theater announced it had purchased the Biograph for use as a live venue. The theater was completely renovated by architect Daniel P. Coffey, who constructed a proscenium-thrust stage and seating for 299 people. A grand staircase, which was part of the original structure, was restored to lead up to the building's second floor, housing a studio theater seating 135 people. The $11 million project for the new theater, styled the Victory Gardens at the Biograph, was completed in the fall of 2006. The facades of the theater and adjoining businesses were redressed to appear as they did in 1934 for the 2009 film Public Enemies. Japanese ink Super Fine Fountain Pen and Watercolor on paper. It's signed by the artist and a Certificate of Authenticity will be included!

I am a Venezuelan-born artist. I grew up in Valencia, the third-largest city in Venezuela, where my Italian parents had immigrated after World War II. Upon graduation from high school in 1989, I had the opportunity to come to the United States and experience life as an exchange student in Tucson, Ariz. A year later, I received a full tennis scholarship and moved to Atlanta to study marketing at Georgia State University and Graphic Design at the Portfolio Center. I went on to earn bachelor’s degrees in both fields. It was during my time in Atlanta that I discovered my love for drawing, painting, and photography. Needing extra money to pay for Graphic Design School, I began painting large acrylic paintings and sold them to friends and co-workers. Over the years, however, my pens and brushes got pushed aside by the time demands of my graphic design career. Until, around 2010, when I reconnected with them while searching for something to help me cope with life stresses. The creative process and the media were, for me, a balm for the soul, much like meditation. When I draw and paint, I am relaxed—and free. Free of rules and deadlines, free of what others might think, free of problems and stress. I think of nothing but capturing what I am seeing in front of me. When my work is completed, I feel accomplished, proud, positive and more knowledgeable about the object or person I have drawn or painted. I love all media. Whatever the medium, my goal is to create art that makes the viewer feel something—sadness, happiness, love, rage, longing. Something.
