Moving to Georgia was definitely a big deal. The most noticeable thing for me is how green it is here. And so these pieces mark the beginning of my adventure here. The black linocut print and the white background of sketch paper represent the noise of day to day life. Whatever that may entail. In California that was work and paying my debts. When I moved to Georgia, that turned into moving, setting up the house, dealing with the (many) issues that arose with the house, the trees, the appliances, the dogs, our stuff. You name it, the issue was there. So that was my noise upon arrival. But the constant calming thing for me, was the green. Now when we first got here (we arrived in November), we didn’t see a whole lot of green. But there was still more than there was in California. And it seemed like it always cut through the noise and it was just reinvigorating. It always lifted my tired spirit when I was moping around. I taped out sections that resemble plant leaves with drafting tape. I then took a wet towel and wiped out the black print within the taped area. That represents the rain. There is so much more rain here than in California. It is absolutely wonderful. Once the water dries, I take soft pastel and add the color. The color towards the edge of these taped off areas will always be a green. The color inside represents the energy that the green brings.
