Corfe Castle is one of the most recognisable places in Dorset. William the Conqueror built the first castle here almost a thousand years ago. Much of what’s left was developed by King John who enjoyed living here, no doubt using his time to develop devious plots. The castle was destroyed during the English Civil War. When I was young (which was not, as my daughter would have you believe, before the castle was destroyed) I had some good friends living in Corfe and spent a lot of time here. It’s a lovely little village and a fantastic starting point for some beautiful walks. This A4 picture is a rare excursion into charcoal and is sold unframed.
