Izolda Griner is a Polish-born artist (1981), based currently in The Hague, The Netherlands. She obtained a baccalaureate of Fine Arts in Poland and a Bachelor of Fine Art in the Netherlands. So far she participated in various group and solo exhibitions in Poland, The Netherlands and Germany. Her work usually reflects human states of mind, in relation to society, and nature. She employs various artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, printmaking, animation, and sporadically as well as video and sound compositions. Additionally, Griner incorporates her photography into her artistic vision. In her early works, she expresses various existential concepts and emotions through the human body, both on paper and canvas. Strongly influenced by the aesthetics of the human body in the works of Gustav Klimt, Jacek Malczewski, and the directness of Francisco de Goya. The literature of Frans Kafka and Bruno Schulz played its role as well in Griner’s perception of human-created reality. Later on, she shifts gradually into the abstract, where the fields of balanced colour made of lines or texture - in combination with their large size - create an atmosphere that becomes the main stimuli to evoke an emotion in the viewer. Exploration of various linear formations in black and white became a prominent characteristic of her drawings and paintings.
