About The Artwork

I am always amazed by the power of sculpture, and the flow of life the artists try to embed into the artwork. I try to throw my imagination onto the art piece, imagining I am an exhibitor, who could revive those master pieces by bringing out a little more spirit from the limitation of the material they were originally moulded from. The process of reproduction by utilizing the magic of light and additional splashes of colour on the canvas allows me to convey not only my admiration but enables my imagination to glow……and hopefully also inspire my audience.

Jack Liang Wang, Shanghainese born and bred, moved to live and work in Hong Kong in 2010. He has a successful career in furniture and interior design rising to Director of Research + Design + Development for Herman Miller Asia Pacific. At the same time Liang trained in Chinese calligraphy where he found a deep passion for drawing & painting and continues to explore these disciplines both artistically and academically in Hong Kong and Europe. Art Series and Themes Painting is a kind of meditation for Liang which helps him find peace and allows his emotions to flow naturally and genuinely onto the canvas. The early practice of Chinese calligraphy taught him the balance of yin & yang and the beauty of the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. The focus on design has led him to a strong commitment to the subject that nevertheless appreciates the quality of simplicity residing within its aesthetic essence. The combination of art, design and engineering has taught Liang the traits of dedication, patience, confidence, pride, conflict and harmony. These traits are developed in his work with the below themes explored in his current output: • Vulnerability through the ages of life from tortured youth to challenge of age and facing up such transformation • Exploration not explanation of female sexuality as pre/post coitus contemplation - challenging the historic male gaze • Transcendence from everyday life to salvation using both traditionally religious and mythic representation
