Sonia Curcic graduated at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade at the department for Graphic Design. After years of personal development, numerous group exhibitions which tried to show various frame of minds and contemporary production, as well as artistic and pedagogical work, the artist presents herself through series of works that have been made in recent years, throughvarious phases of her work. The retrospective exhibition, namedFalse World, in National Museum in Krusevac, represents a concise selection of drawings and paintings which offers fascinating insights on various phases of the artist`s creative work. It starts from her early pieces of work which have been created since 2010 and thematically focused on human body, still life and landscape painting, which later have expended to her recent production of her works of specific insight into artistic thought, figurative orientation that the artist is developingand is determined by her need to move within personal emotional boundaries. Artistic form of Sonia Curcic is based on esthetic postulates and artistic practice of trends that appeared at the end of the fourth decade of Serbian Modern Art, defined as the state of soul. The emphasized affinity for introspection leads the author to infinite quest for various formulations within already defined poetics and realized artistic values. The earlier work of Sonia Curcic traces the impression of anxiety, fear, pang and quest for essence and is characterized by refined feeling for shape, form and atmosphere. Searching for freedom, essential life questions and answers, the artist leads us to marginal, rejected, false world. The abundance of motives and forms, characterized by strong and colorful outline, loses its basic meaning and become the metaphor used by the artist as an identification between the work of art and the author herself. The complete creative work of Sonia Curcic is marked by her affinity for figure which is more than a mere reflection of her concern, for, it represents a starting impulse which, having gone through her personal experience and thought, comes out into shapes modified by her inner vision. A picture is not realistic reflection of things and the process of its creation is more complex than a simply conveying realistic facts into the realism of the painting. More recent series of paintings are marked by plan reduction, solid composition, more precisely modular figure and baroquelight.
