ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Having driven across the upper Midwest and Western United States over many years I developed an admiration for the rural structures that punctuate the landscape, often surrounded by a "wind-break" of trees. For me they represent a kind solitude and self-sufficiency, yet still remain connected by a grid of long, straight roads. I have used the medium of oil pastel for over forty years. It allows me to layer and weave colors, and make marks in a way that feels different than paint, yet perhaps has more in common with painting than drawing. The given dimensions are for the image size. Paper size is 76 W x 107 H.
