ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I try to visually interpret or translate the model, their warmth, their thoughts, their center and their space. The medium inspires the motivation to make the mark. Ever since I started working with recycled paper as a substrate, I have primed the printed paper with gesso or flat house paint to stabilize the surface. The painting of this surface often creates a relief which will interact with the graphite blocks I use to make the marks, therefore creating marks within my marks. Using mineral spirits will melt the graphite and make the drawing come to life.

2015, I retired and became a Professor Emeritus at Ohio University. I have been teaching Graphic Design, Drawing, Letterpress and Bookbinding at Ohio University for 25 years. I have traveled around the world several times conducting design workshops in the National Institute of Design, India, the Hong Kong Design Institute, Massey University, New Zealand, Virginia Commonwealth University, Qatar, University of the Arts, Philadelphia and the Basel, School of Design. I was a senior designer at The Upjohn Company, and a design faculty at the Rhode Island School of Design. In addition to drawing regularly, I am writing design education books and I am in the process of reprinting my international, award-winning Adleta Perpetual Calendar.
