Chau Thuy was born in Lam Dong, Vietnam. He has lived in the USA since 1980. He graduated with a BSEE degree from the University of Louisiana in 1986. Since 2004 he has been involved with UVSA Tet and participated at Youth Leader Boot Camp and many other Vietnamese Youth events. He is an author of books about calligraphy Bút Họa and Impressionistic Calligraphy. Chau Thuy’s passion for calligraphy is rooted in Vietnamese culture and history. The idea of shared humanity is reflected in his art series of philosophical aphorisms. His artworks were exhibited at SOKA University, California State University, Fullerton, California State University, Dominguez Hills, USC Pacific Asia Museum, and Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, and many Vietnamese venues. His most recognized artwork Viet was exhibited at Sacramento Capitol. Over a decade of research and collecting information about Boat People and Vietnamese refugees resulted in historical fictionalized novel Vực Xoáy, published in 2015. The novel detailed the heartbreaking love story of the Boat People. After a well-received Vietnamese version he released an English version under the title Bloodstained Sea, published in 2019. Chau Thuy is a survivor of a dramatic boat escape from Vietnam to Thailand. His extraordinary journey as a refugee determined his unique appreciation for life and freedom. As an act of homage to all Vietnamese Boat People, he decided to dedicate his life to educate the public and to raise awareness about their unimaginable tragedy. By creating calligraphy artworks, writing books, collecting artifacts, engaging Vietnamese community in preservation of Boat People and Vietnamese refugee history with a vision of Vietnamese Heritage Museum he constructs a real platform for preservation of the past but also embracement of the future of Vietnamese community abroad but also in the homeland. His message also addresses the ongoing refugee crisis, with millions of people being displaced in the world today. Chau Thuy believes that all his activities lead to the ultimate project of building a unique museum to preserve the true history of Vietnamese Refugees abroad.
