About The Artwork

The element of air/wind stands primarily for motion. We experience this element which blows through the trees, plays with our hair and caresses our skin. We can be cooled by its touch or be faced with a hot breath. It can be strong enough to take the form of a storm which destroys everything in its path. Air is what we breathe in to stay alive. It is the source of oxygen. With the rising number of factories and industries spewing poisonous gases into the air it is becoming more and more difficult for us to breathe the air around us. We are destroying the ozone layer which acts as shield to harmful rays of the sun. We are killing ourselves through slow poisoning every day and with that we are also putting the lives of all air borne creatures to risk. This series has been inspired by the 5 elements of life which form everything inside and around us and how greed and progress is destroying the balance between these elements and hence the balance between survival and extinction, life and death. This artwork is a part of a group of 5 drawings on the theme of the 5 elements. You might want to buy this drawing as a single piece but it does create a more wholesome effect when displayed with the other 4 drawings. I will suggest that you collect all five artworks and display them together. They will surely grab a lot of attention and spark conversation. You will cherish owning them and the experience they create for you.

After graduating as a Bachelor in Fine Arts, I have worked as a graphic designer for 6 years in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. I resumed creating independent artworks in the varied mediums of painting, digital graphics and art installations after moving back to Kolkata in the year 2008. My chosen medium is watercolor and pen drawing on paper. My art works are an exercise in exploration of the self, as a creature of nature; an evolution through understanding of my physical, sensual and spiritual needs. They are expressions of personal confusions, visions, emotions and realizations. On one hand they are projections of my thoughts on worldly matters, which often baffle and trouble me, on the other they are personifications of my lunacies, fantasies, magical dreams, wicked thoughts and mischievous self expressions. Through their untamed and fantastic imagery, they are intimately mine and ultimately me.
