ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A portrait painted on a broken handmade porcelain plate. The drawing is made with ceramic colors called Angobs, and all the piece is fired in ceramic kiln to 1200° C. The figure is an angel from Leonardo De Vinchi's painting ''Virgin of the Rocks" . Leonardo's drawings are a source of inspiration for me with their special vibe and reflective gaze of the characters. I enjoy giving them my contemporary interpretation. The small painting made in intimacy with the figure and the clay bedding in my palm invites the viewer to take a close look and follow the thoughtful look of the gurdian angel. No hanging hook. The work can be placed on a shelf and lean on the wall, or pasted directly to the wall.

Ayelet Zer Sheinbaim is a ceramic artist and potter. She creates and teaches in her studio in Moshav Be'er Tovia where she has lived since 1996. Many of Ayelet's works deal with documentation and memory. Family experiences, childhood memories and the body are reflected in material imprints, monoprints and paintings on ceramic and porcelain fragments. Ayelet creates ceramic sculptures in alternative firings and also uses the special qualities of the ceramic material, the textures, the natural colors and simple shapes without ornaments. Her language is often based on series of works that together make up the complete story. As someone who likes to observe, the act of photography is an integral part of her work and she combine photography and video art. Ayelet has participated in many group exhibitions, a solo exhibition and residency programs.
