Inspired by the haunting writings of George Orwell's novel '1984' which had a large influence on me as an artist and story teller. I hope the viewers find this to be a fitting homage to this great, classic novel and will also feel the societal structure and roles it places upon people as well as acknowledging the words written by George Orwell warning us of the consequences of authoritative governments. Using chalk pastels from the 1930's mixed with water creating the dark muddy feel to match the tone of the book. Combined with an actual excerpt cut out from the book to hammer home the homage and authoritative tone the novel paints for it's antagonist Big Brother. The style of the figure was born from the concept of cave paintings telling stories. The simplicity of the character leaves him to be interpreted in walk of life adding the concept of oppression having no prejudices, only caring about staying in power.
