About The Artwork

Primarily the concept started because of an obsession with being an individual. In a world where a lot of our decisions has already been made for us, I felt obligated to remind people that we are all individuals. No two humans are the same. Immediately the idea of a fingerprint came to mind, but where does a finger print come from? Our DNA. Through countless experiments and ideas on how to illustrate this I finally landed on this technique entitled, Life Lines. The idea is to use only parallel lines in order to create “shapes” or “figures” by using thin, medium and thick lines. The parallel lines were inspired by auto-radiograms of DNA. Essentially each piece becomes like a finger print since no two of the artworks’ sequences of lines will ever be the same. Because this technique plays with the optical, it allows the viewer to engage on more than one way with the work. Either up close in order to really study each part of each figure, or as an entire being / DNA sequence from afar. Once again it acts as a reminder of how unique each of us are or can be, but as a society we seem to have forgotten the very thing that makes us human. Our genetic makeup. Never forget who you are.
