My name is Jaime, a mostly self-taught artist from Wilmington, North Carolina; I believe the power of artistic expression is enhanced by passion and dedication to your art. My favorite mediums are graphite and carbon pencils, and charcoal because for me, they just feel right. I will also use pastels to add color. There’s just something about opening a new tin of pencils or sharpening ‘that’ one pencil to create your masterpiece. There’s no feeling like it, when you transform a blank page into an expression of what you saw in your mind. I think of my style as a balance between realism and expressive interpretation which gives it unique character, inviting viewers to engage with the piece on a deeper level. Although, mostly a self-taught artist, I do feel the exploration of shading and light is a fundamental aspect that brings depth and realism to art. But that is secondary to artistic expression. Indeed, it's the personal touch and the joy in creation that define an artist's unique style. This individuality is what makes each piece of art distinct and resonates with the audience in its own special way. The evolution of art mediums and techniques is a testament to the adaptability and creativity of artists.
