Tante Gertrud loved the feel of silk on her skin... Drawing

Connecting with family; our children’s health, welfare and future; remembering our ancestors- these things concern all of humanity. Happily for me, compelling heirlooms from my 3 international family sources (American, Swedish and French) often gravitate to my studio, prodding me to brush off the dust of time and incorporate them into my work, connecting past to present. This embroidery was executed one of my Swedish Grandmother's carefully preserved silk undergarments. As soon as I lifted it out of the box where it was living it tugged on my imagination and whispered, "Use me! Use me!" And so my grandmother's underpants live on, with a nostalgic message now sewn into its silk weave...
