About The Artwork

1 of a Series of 6 paintings. The last on this subject. Sometimes in life we are faced with things that make us a bit crazy. We become someone that we do not recognise. This unrecognisable state causes confusion not only in us but in everyone around us. People wonder what is going on….. are you alright…..you are not yourself…….you are distant. We continue in our daily lives, mask on, but deep down we are not in the job at hand we are lost….lost in thought…..consumed by the memory of what was. I guess these paintings are the moving on from this. Someone said to me recently that sometimes the thoughts of something is better than the reality and I think that is right. Why risk everything in life for something that you don’t know, that is not familiar to you. I say to J if you are ever going to have an affair make sure that you love her, if you love her then at least it is worth it. If it is just a drunken one night stand then you don’t deserve my love. Love finds happiness in many places and If you fall in love then I can cope with that. My infactuation is short lived. His face unknown now, Unrecognisable…. like a death in my head… the memories fade away, face forgotten. The fisherman remains though, it is his eyes…..they suffer no fools. He has kind eyes. He loves the woman, just the way she is. No changes to be made, no alteration to her look, her body although disfigured and imperfect. Perfect in his eyes. His eyes….his eyes…. And there her spirit released once more. The last painting the woman finds her love. Her one love, her love , her love her love…… Woman……independent woman. Strong Independent woman……choose love…..choose that love…….choose…………….

I love the idea of imperfection. Imperfection 1 imperfectness 2 fault, blemish 1 deficiency, inadequacy, incompleteness 2 blemish, defect, deficiency, error, failing, fault, flaw, foible, frailty, infirmity, peccadillo, shortcoming, weakness. John Ruskin wrote 'imperfection is in some sort essential to all that we know of life. It is the sign of life in a mortal body, that is to say, of a state of progress and change. Nothing that lives is, or can be, rigidly perfect; part of it is decaying, part nascent........ And in all things that live there are certain irregularities and deficiencies which are not only signs of life, but sources of beauty. No human face is exactly the same in its lines on each side, no leaf perfect in its lobes, no branch in its symmetry. All admit irregularity as they imply change; and to banish imperfection is to destroy expression, to check exertion, to paralyze vitality. All things are literally better, lovelier, and more beloved for the imperfections which have been divinely appointed, that the law of human life may be Effort, and the law of human judgment, Mercy'. This was my moment of clarity. Reading this quote allowed me to let go and not have pre-conceived ideas of what is expected as an artist. It also forced me to regard beauty in a different way, seeing it in new forms and new places. My Art is imperfect. My body imperfect. My life.... I love to play around with my art and use my own naked body to project images, poses, feelings, thoughts onto the canvas. I love to lose myself to art. I use it as an escape from the everyday 9-5. My art allows me to become someone different, someone that is looser, more passionate, not as reserved. Music is a major stimulus and with the volume turned up and the outside world shut out I am free to let go, embrace my imperfections and create. I like to think that people can see a piece of me, look at my art and feel the same things that I feel. I hope that my art provides a window into my true inner self. It's up to you whether you choose to catch a glimpse from across the street or press your nose against the glass for a closer look! http://emmavisca.wix.com/thenakedpainter emmaviscascottishartistthenakedpainter.wordpress.com http://about.me/emma_visca www.facebook.com/scottishartistemmavisca www.artslant.com/global/artists/show/369099-emma-visca www.pinterest.com (Emma Visca Art Work) Follow me on Twitter @emma_visca
