The Promise on wall
This drawing was inspired by a vintage dress from the 1940's that belonged to a family member. The model, my daughter, is wearing the dress. It just happened to fit her perfectly and so it seemed 'fitting' to have her model it for this piece. As it happens this dress has also been featured in two of my figurative oil paintings which have been sold.

Framed dimensions are 33" x 28" x 1"
Drawing dimensions are 22" x 18"
Archival white mat is 3.5"
The frame is wood in a dark taupe

Professionally framed and ready to hang with wire

The drawing has been featured in American Art Collector Magazine

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Joyce is an internationally collected Multidisciplinary Painter and Sculptor living and working in Toronto. While her main focus is Abstract Expressionist painting, she also has a passion for sculpting and drawing the human form for which she was academically trained. Over the last twelve years, Joyce has exhibited in solo and group shows within Canada and internationally. Featured on several occasions in American Art Collector magazine since 2009, her work is found in private and public collections in Canada, the USA, and Europe. STATEMENT "My paintings are Abstract Expressionist and entirely conceptual. They are bold and passionate created with conviction in response to a specific emotion or state of being. Working medium to large in size I start by randomly applying heavy-bodied Gesso to the canvas to create a geometric design. I then use this design as a template for acrylic paint application. I rarely use colour directly from the tube and prefer instead to mix my own. I feel this lends an intimacy to the work. Using large brushes and/or palette knives I allow some paint to drip while scraping out various areas to reveal the underpainting. My goal is to say as much as possible without having a big discussion. I want people to see what uniquely speaks to them, depending on their own situation. People see different things in my work. Movement, Colour, and Passion are words I often hear people use when they speak about my work. I have been most influenced by the great Abstract Expressionists of post-World War II America. Specifically, I feel my work most resembles what one would see if Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline, and Hans Hofmann had collaborated to paint something together."
