About The Artwork
The drawing from Raphael, along with several composition and figure drawings in other collections, are studies for an unexecuted Resurrection, possibly designed by Raphael for the Chigi chapel in the church of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome. Here I am reproducing the original in graphite, using my own hatching style. The helplessness is well captured in the main character's face and the vulnerable body positions add to the feeling. The shading is subdued and completes the picture to give a harmonious look.
