b. 1979 Laos born Australian artist Sittoula Sitlakone employs the activist strategies of street art fused with the vernacular of advertising in a discussion around Australian identity. Utilising the tactics of culture jamming or subvertising, Sitlakone takes existing cultural icons and subverts them for the purposes of political critique. National identity, cross cultural pollinations, the finite nature of resources and humanity's impact on the environment are all addressed with a satirical wit and humor. Sitlakone's Artistic skills was recognized from young age and this talent has enriched his professional life continuously, allowing him to incorporate art into the community in a number of ways. Having been commissioned to graffiti the skate park as well as producing backdrops for youth events and dance parties since the late 90's, his artwork has also been included in numerous group exhibitions.
