From the series Singles, i have taken a single figure from the group and placed it alone, on graph paper to represent how a persons life can be plotted like a graph, with systems, social and political influencing our choices and experiences.

Abbi Torrance is interested in the human condition. Simple full length portraits explore our relationships with nature and animals. Isolated figures, with a direct gaze, dreamlike, quirky or unusual, describe her work well. She is currently exploring totemism and myth as a way the soul can escape the minds rational embrace. Her previous drawings explore issues of free will and control. In these drawings Torrance uses performance to highlight how people connect to each other, the systems around us and space. Graph paper backgrounds make a statement about how human beings are increasingly seen as data, markets and demographics. Does the individual still have agency? Torrance has been exhibited widely. Including the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, the ICA, Discerning Eye and a solo show in Galerie Nivit-Curzone, Paris in 2015.
