About The Artwork

Folded paper in colorful different geometric figures. Kollasch arranges the folds like the collection of butterflies in a showcase of an entomologist. In the juxtaposition of the individual folds to each other, the individuality of each "folder" becomes particularly clear through its form, color and materiality. The basic form is the triangle, which appears in ever new variations. Each of the abstract, origami-like folded triangles is unique. Kollasch uses various types of paper, which he collects in everyday life and on his travels. Among them are nostalgic banknotes, certificates, handmade papers as well as paper pages from current and rare magazines, booklets or books. Further information is available at www.dskollasch.de.

Kollasch was born on a sunny september day in 1973. His medium is the paper. All his works are unique and handmade. He works in a classical manner, with a sharp blade, scissors and glue. His first solo exhibition was in 2013 with “MEGAURBANPOLIS”, in which he described his Utopian landscapes, which mostly consist of buildings in which we live and work. He is particularly concerned with depth of field and perspectives in the development of his collage work. Further translation of architecture into geometric figures and forms, culminates in his ongoing series “figura architectura”. Another focus of his artworks are his experience with folded paper, which he has composed so far in showcases, in photographs or illustrations. Particularly popular is the series: “Falter - Für alle, die keine toten Tiere mögen”, in which he presents his paper folds like butterflies in a frame. The special thing is that each butterfly is handmade from its own shape and different used paper materials. Among them can also be banknotes, old identity documents or silk-paper. The series is about diversity, variety and protection of animals. In his work the recycling of used materials, sustainability and the collection of long-forgotten images also play a role, which he brings to light again by integrating them into a new context. Since 2014 he participates in the collagistas festival, which takes place every year in a different country. Kollasch lives and works in Berlin.
