Alfonse Pagano is a New York-based artist working across painting, mixed media, sculpture, installation, drawing, and photography. His work explores cultural symbols, political history, and the physical transformation of materials. Ink, graphite, rice paper, canvas, resin, fabric, and found materials are layered, abraded, distressed, reconstructed, and sometimes allowed to deteriorate.
An early formative experience working with kinetic sculptor and filmmaker Len Lye reinforced Pagano's interest in material energy, surface, movement, and transformation. Across both intimate works and large-scale installations, the physical process of making remains visible and becomes part of the meaning of the work.
