Sometimes wistful, sometimes foreboding, we imbue clouds with an emotional charge that permeates the relationships we create with our environment. Lazy cottoned teapots and rabbits scroll effortlessly overhead. While the dense, burgeoning clouds that consume a morning's horizon portend approaching fury. Quite an emotional range for airborne vapor. This image started as an original, high-fidelity photograph that was sampled and reassembled as discreet, 3-dimensional shapes using homemade, generative 3D software. The high-resolution render yields prints at 16.25 x 30 inches -- large enough for the image to transform from recognizably familiar at a distance to tantalizingly abstract up close, with (full bleed) image running all the way to the edges. Prints on paper use archival inks and 100% rag fine art paper to produce works of lasting beauty, and look their best when paired with archival mattes and frames (not included). Prints on metal use high-quality inks on durable aluminum to create breathtakingly vibrant images. Though they cost slightly more ($1080), prints on metal come with pre-attached gallery hardware and are ready to hang, without requiring expensive mattes or frames.

A native of California now living and working in Oakland, Scott Frankel works in a variety of media ranging from oils and watercolors to generative digital synthesis and alternative photographic processes. A former fine arts filmmaker with a career pursued in film, Scott is a member of both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Association for Computing Machinery. The most pronounced unifying thread in his work is the pursuit of processes that are largely uncontrollable. Wet on wet watercolors run where they will; gum bichromate prints attain lustrous depth after a dozen or more layers; long exposure pinhole cameras capture what they please; and generative 3D processes take days of processing to reveal their uncanny, synthetic imagery. Each forces a dialogue that demands focused attention, the process requiring process to steer. Scott's work has been collected both privately and by corporations, with a 12 piece commission recently completed for a national financial institution.
