ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Enter" is a captivating encaustic artwork that merges the haunting allure of abandoned spaces with the metaphorical narrative of confronting life's challenges. Inspired by a fascination with decayed structures and the resilience of the human spirit, I employ encaustic techniques to transfer two poignant photographs into a wax medium. The central image captures the ambiance of an abandoned hallway, while a dynamic female figure, symbolizing the courage to face inner struggles, is layered on top. The distressed and aged appearance inherent to encaustic adds a surreal quality, enhancing the artwork's dreamlike atmosphere. The title, "Enter," beckons viewers to contemplate the act of stepping into the unknown, confronting challenges, and exploring the open doors of opportunity. The predominantly monochromatic color palette, ranging from rich browns to gray-blues, creates a contemplative mood, amplifying the emotional depth of the piece. Through deliberate choices in medium and subject matter, I invite viewers to reflect on their own journeys of resilience and self-discovery. "Enter" becomes a visual metaphor for the transformative process of facing and navigating through life's uncertainties with courage and introspection.

"My art is a combination of photography, encaustic, and painting. I transfer images directly into beeswax, and embellish with colored wax mediums I make from oil-based or powdered pigments. I enjoy the wide range of possibilities inherent in this technique - the evocative and distressed tones, and especially the additive and subtractive qualities that come along with the process. Through my art, I continue to express concepts of growth and awareness, and to promote the preservation of our external environment as well as the cultivation of our inner self."
