A collaborated art project that inspired me to put a collection of my artworks together digitally, and then print it on paper. This style of manipulating images has always appealed me since I was always passionate about photography at a young age. The theme was around Lebanon's iconic legend and singer Fairuz and its nostalgic feel of the past through the civil war streets of Lebanon, and the symbolism of women and Arabic calligraphy as a reminder of the power and exotic nature of the Arabic culture. The viewer should get a sense of the past and what is lost in the realms of the past.

Please contact: curator@saatchiart.com for more details BIOGRAPHY Zena Dabbous is a Lebanese-Canadian visual artist who has polarized styles in her paintings, drawings, and mural work---from conceptual abstract figures in acrylics and mixed media, to abstract realism portraits in oil paint. Her multi-cultural and eclectic upbringing brings a novel and conceptual perspective to her artwork and the representation of women is very important to her creations. Zena has exhibited, sold work, and has the Artist Recognition icon on SaatchiArt online. She has done mural artwork in well-known establishments in Kuwait like Bloomingdales’ Middle East and Crystal Towers. She has also collaborated in an important mural collaboration project for the US Embassy that is indefinitely exhibited at Kuwait's Museum of Modern Art. Additionally, she featured in local newspapers and had a featured Interview published at 123ART Magazine-online art magazine based in New York. Through a short time of a couple of years, Zena went from a self-taught artist to a professional. As an emerging artist, she is looking forward to more work, exhibitions, and projects in the future. She currently lives in Kuwait and works at an Art Studio/Gallery, as well as offering freelance work. STATEMENT: As a self-taught artist, I believe in the journey of self discovery through art, as well as emphasizing conceptualization. Creativity starts with an idea, and that should be the most important factor. By mixing realism and abstract in portraits, and minimalism and conceptualism in my figurative work, these discrepant styles can be viewed as a projection of my character and experiences. Women represented with limited colour pallets and minimal detail are common themes to my work.
