Siori Kitajima is a painter and multimedia artist who explores complexity and abstraction through a variety of techniques and styles. Her acrylic paintings are often composed of wild bold compositions, patterns/textures, and fine details. She makes the invisible visible via motifs like ‘space’, ‘tension’ and ‘flow of air’ by fine lines of her scratch technique. Data and statistics play an increasing role in her works. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, and started painting when she was five years old, taught by her grandfather who was a landscape painter. She started her career in 1997 as a professional Illustrator and painter, and has created countless works for Japanese books and magazines. Since moving to the U.S. in 2007, she began experimenting with several different mediums including Data Visualizations and Digital art, and combining those new methods into her paintings. She is a finalist of world wide data visualization award ‘Information is Beautiful’ 2012. Her work has been featured in galleries, magazines and websites around the world.
