Meet Solitary Beige Dog, the smallest of comrades. Always eager to please and habitually pleased to see you, she is the ideal cohabitant counterpart. What's more, unlike the real thing, she won't disturb your sleep, pester you in the bathroom or raid the fridge. On the contrary, she will simply sit where she is put, listen without interrupting, come when summoned and retreat when bade off. And, if you happen to be especially lucky, or if he happens to especially like you, she may even answer the phone on the odd occasion and clean the house. Please Note: Because they are created with love and require extensive attention to detail, Flat Mates are made by commission only. The image displayed is a sample dog. If you would like to commission a dog, shack up with a rabbit or a cat, or lie down with a lion or a tiger, etc... your wish is my command. I can also design to breed type and/or work from a photo. See my website for details (www.rebeccalatherton.wordpress.com/flat-mates). Alternatively, you can send me an email: email@example.com

I use my creativity as a way to better understand myself and others and find it a helpful medium through which to explore and resolve problems. My work is centred on personal growth, emotional wellbeing and physical health. The things I create reflect my inner landscape. They are me looking out and making a statement. While on the surface they appear pretty and innocent, superficial even, beneath they are hiding a deep truth, waiting to be massaged into life. Pinning things to an external fabric changes them, making them less threatening and more real, reducing their volume so that they lose their spikes. No matter how difficult, how hard to instigate or how uncomfortable to maintain; for me, the effort and the continued pursuit are worth it.. I call my work "˜Embroidered Truths', because each piece refers to and represents a specific period in my life. Lifted unedited, it bears testament to whatever element or event it was necessary for me to exorcise. When I feel hopeless, lost, worthless and empty, art restores me. When I feel anxious and restless, art calms and grounds me, replacing the pieces that life and living and the people and things that I rub up against have taken away. I call my work "˜Embroidered Truths' because each piece refers to and represents a specific period in my life. Lifted unedited, it bears testament to whatever element or event it was necessary for me to exorcise.
