As we walk through the city and its canyon shadows we move in and out of light. We move also between focus and distraction, interiority and alertness to our surroundings. The woman walking here moves in her own private but public halo, lit by the light of technology, and the off-stage lamps of the streetlight and the sun, and half hidden in the blurred partitions of the city street. I work in many kinds of collage and printmaking, and I am currently looking at ways to work as spontaneously with digital collage as I do with paper. I look in my digital processes for the beautiful surprise and the accidental offsets and "mistakes" that happen on an analog press. This woman was photographed in the Before Times when people walked nonchalantly along the street, unmasked. I modified her through processes of digital alchemy, blending her image with an original painting to bring the tactile and the human into the digital image. The final print is a limited edition print on rag paper printed in archival pigment inks. There is closeup in the additional images showing the grain of the German Etching paper. It is a spectacular paper for fine art printing in the way it holds ink and refracts light. Due to the nature of its fiber structure it must be shipped flat, and not rolled.
