0.05 USD Painting

In Ecuador in the year 2000, after a fatal economic crisis the government decided to dollarize our economy. This meant the stabilization and improvement of the macroeconomic conditions and the confidence of the population. We also lost the main daily object that contained our history and identity. I experienced the abrupt banishment of our bills and coins, those coins that once had value became sad pieces of memories. Accumulated in my Piggy bank, my coins were worthless. ¿where is the value? definitely not in the pieces of coined metal. The value of the currency is based on faith. The value of Fiat money is based solely on the faith of the community in the nation's paper currency. We adopted USD. The Ecuadorian cents are the last remains of our history circulating from hand to hand. These coins have different shape but same value as USD cents, They were only issued once in 2000. The Ecuadorian penny has no face instead it has the map of America and the legend "Ecuador, Light of America”
