Agata Kosmala “The Boundary Line” (Linia Graniczna) GALERIA ARTTRAKT, WROCŁAW A story about the world seen and imagined, or “The Boundary Line” by Agata Kosmala at Arttrakt Gallery Arttrakt Gallery invites you to the opening of the solo exhibition “The Boundary Line” by Wroclaw painter Agata Kosmala, who presents a series of large-scale paintings using the language of spontaneous abstraction. “The Boundary Line” is the latest project of Wroclaw painter, which is primarily concerned with the problem of perception, or rather with the issue of individual analysis of every day phenomena that surround us. The pretext for spinning tales about the world seen and imagined for Agata Kosmala is the horizon itself, namely the hard-to-determine boundary line between what can be seen, what is vanishing and what is barely perceptible. Starting from the horizon line, understood as the symbolic landscape boundary and using visual means, the artist seeks to observe the direction of her vision and the analysis of stimuli that reach her, as well as her purely emotional perception. Can we therefore call Agata Kosmala’s work an emotional landscape? Certainly yes. It may even be kind of an intimate landscape, expressed in the spirit of spontaneous abstraction, that invites us to enter into the indeterminate, original world brimming with liquidity and insinuations. The work of Agata Kosmala is based largely on instinct, painterly gesture and emotion. That may be the reason why extraordinary lightness, immateriality and elegance are sensed simultaneously in her paintings. It is worth noting that the sense of evanescence—the effect of staring at the horizon—is reflected not only in the stylistic, but also in the formal means of expression, revealed by the meticulous search for delicacy, the transparency of medium—the paint—and the full awareness of the tool. The painter rarely uses the line. It is the color patch, sweeping and emotionally marked, that plays the key role in this work. The use of sublime yet unobvious color patch and the unique painterliness bring the spectator into the artist’s world that might actually hide behind the title boundary line. I express myself artistically in the form of a graphic sign, unfolding as in a drama, a theatrical form. I invite my audience into the world of emotions, sensations filled with saturated colors. What is happening in my paintings always happens “BETWEEN”: Between HER and HIM, Between HER and ANOTHER, Between me and My World; “ BETWEEN” geometrically defined and unlimited form or BETWEEN free gesture breaking this form. The empty space on canvas begins to fill with my emotions as well as viewer emotions - BETWEEN us.
