12 stripes, oil on canvas 50x50cm, N°6 Painting

This is the sixth in a series of oil paintings sized 50 x 50 cm on linen canvas. These paintings are paradigmical, in the sense that their premises and composition depends to a large degree upon decisions made by reference to a series of digits of the number pi in hexadecimal formulations. Each paintiing is made up of 12 stripes, painted in various directions across this series the direction of each stripe, its color, and location, are determined in that manner. The paint is mixed with turpintine and medium to make each layer very thin and transparent, thus making the resulting image visibly multilayered. After applying the paint the canvas is arranged vertically so the paint drips down its surface, creating a streaming texture following the thread of the canvas.
