About The Artwork

First pice of four in the '17 4/4 series (https://www.villohorvath.com/17series44). It's focusing on the after-image effect evoked step by step, from the left to the right. Due to contrasts and semi-monochrome surfaces, the sight is constantly changing. The viewer can see them properly (and separately, due to the after-images) only by spending enough time with each one. The series is preferably sold together (720x200 cm), but they're available separately too.

https://www.villohorvath.com/ The evolution of technology creates many new influences for our eyes. With the constant increase of monitors we are exposed to unnatural effects on a daily basis. When looking sideways after watching a monitor there will always be a strong after-image, if we photograph a computer’s monitor with a mobile phone then there will be an interference between pixels. My works are inspired by these sensual deceptions which we are accustomed to by today. The inner workings of our world build upon constant change. Natural sciences and psychology alike study the correlation between action and reaction. The basic flow of the human life's phenomena is no different. My works are an analogy to this constant change by playing with retinal perception and sensation. They test the impeccability of stored memories and broaden the momentary sight with after-images. Our movement in accordance with the picture’s surface changes what we see and perceive of the picture. The works start to live as soon as they establish a connection to the viewer - in the “now” - and their integrity ends when the contact between viewer and picture ceases to be.
