acrylic colour on handmade thai mulberry paper, deckled edge, 21 x 31 in., 55 x 80 cm. Many things attract me to monk images. Mostly it’s the opportunity to play with colours when painting the robes. To me the body language, expression is all the in the robes. Of course the facial expression binds the whole thing. The paper I use is a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. The paper is a thick parchment paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect. Here for the print I have cropped away the uneven ‘deckled’edges. The close up picture is of higher resolution to be able to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. The third picture is me with the painting and holding up the Hidden Treasure art mag yearbook 2015, a catalog of artists…. and my page featuring this painting. Interested to have your idea painted in this style? Maybe a family portrait or other, a storyboard collage from a recent travel, event or performance? Contact me.

Malaysia
I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
