About the Artist

Alberto Gulminetti

Italy

I’m Alberto, I’m a painter and a videomaker living in Rome.

After attending Arts High School in Turin, I pursued my passions up to Rome, where I settled and still live, to study at a Cinema Academy, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts where, in 2017, I graduated with honors.
In the two-year period 2018/19 I attended at painter Mario Salvo’s studio, taking painting lessons with the palette knife technique, also known as Stratigraphic Palette Knife.

I have been exclusively working with video and digital art for several years but, recently, I felt the need to get back to painting.

My work has been influenced by the abstract artworks of Nicolas De Stael, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Sergio Scatizzi, Sean Scully among other artists. The art of the second post-war period influences more my production.

The word that best translates my search is: Image.
The deep and ancestral meaning of the Image is the basis of my work.
I am a visual person - I like to work/create at 360º with painting, video and digital art.
I believe that we cannot arrive at an absolute truth about the meaning of images - of all images, and therefore of the ultimate Image: the concept of Representation.

But.

But with the gesture and the color that I put on the canvas I circumvent the truth and compose doubts, because this is the only thing that I have: the Doubt.
The Abstract is a form of language before language, it brings us into a state of pre-knowledge, the state in which babies are found.

I love abstraction, because it allows me to reach the bottom of knowledge without saying a word.
