5th of July Painting

Painting on cradled wood panel. This is a part of the series with the same name. When actual flags hit the ground and are left to stew in the mud, sitting in a degradative state for prolonged periods of time, I pick them up, wash them off and give them a new respectful life as art work. The series is meant to speak to the lack of respect for patriotism in America today. There is a lot of speech about loyalty and respect for our country, but after all is said and done, our most potent symbols are left to rot in the mud. This series is a rare statement on my part about politics and social norms.
