Synopsis This month (May) I opened the “season” of my climbs to Castro Laboreiro. For those who don't know, it's in Geres, more precisely the entrance is through Porta de Lamas de Mouro, an oasis in the mountainous landscape that embraces us as we climb from Melgaço. I fell in love with this particular place in 2013 when, on a mushroom-themed trip, I found myself in a place that was much more than a simple landscape of the beautiful Geres has. Something there already belonged to me, it was familiar to me and the sensation was so intense, a true …..Awww … visceral, that since then I never let go. Today, when I go up, a lot of people know me, and I came down from that mountain one day with a Castro dog in the trunk of the car that is now my great friend Clara. When I go up there, my soul says goodbye to criticism, weights, responsibilities, limitations, fears and expands in all its strength. The first day is always barefoot, it's a physical, mental and emotional need. The others that follow are days of increasing lightness and freedom. The blooming of a lotus flower in the mud I carry. When I return to my countryside village, coming from what is also my home, I am no longer the same. There are pictures of these days on my instagram if you like to dream. This series of watercolors gives birth to the power of that soul that we all have, so often buried under everything that is often not ours. Hence the name Gardens of the soul. My painting began in the sweetest memory of my childhood of seeing my father always in love with music. He worked with classical music all his life and had a vinyl shop were I went to help him many times, and I remember the days when he came home late and closed himself to his zen moment and flooded our beds with Chopin, Bach and Ravel. When I started painting, first figurative, my search was always on abstracts, like a first love, so It all made sense when a kind of bridge built itself in the perfect timimming, between my work and music and the power of abstraction as a unique and individual inner sound.. When I was ready and had the courage to start painting abstract, I immediately perceived the intellectual demand that my choice brought me. There was behind the chosen forms a deep sense of being. That was when Bach came and gave meaning to my work. He brought me back the memories of my father's music, and that was the leap to interpret my favorite compositions on canvas like a golden hand that was given to me by fate, as in a dialogue between me and the composer or interpreter. It has become an exchange of emotions and the beginning of a long road leading me to the light in all themes that my interior need to provide, with the knowledge that it takes only one man to change something for the better in other people's lives. Art comes to the artist as a responsibility to serve. My name*s meaning conjuncts Grace (Graça) and Peace (Paz) and I born at 4 of March 1967 in Porto, and l presently live and works in the Rural north of Portugal in Minho.
