About the Artist

Süleyman Özderin

Turkey

He was born in 1971 in Avanos district of Nevşehir. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara. In 1995, he graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts, ‘Interior Architecture and Environmental Design’ Department with a success award. In 1999, she opened her first solo exhibition at Akbank Art Gallery and participated in many competitive exhibitions. In 2002, he received the Honourable Mention Award in the 13th Tekel Traditional Painting Competition, in 2015, he received the First Prize in the Çanakkale Painting Competition organised by the Gallipoli Memorial Club in Australia in cooperation with Turkey (the work has also been permanently accepted to the Museum of the Gallipoli Memorial Club in Australia), and in 2016, he received the First Prize in the Yunus Emre Painting Competition with the theme ‘Like Yunus’ organised by the Governorship of Eskişehir.

In 2003, he completed his Master's thesis research titled ‘Content and Form in Abstract Painting’ at Hacettepe University Institute of Social Sciences and in 2011 he completed his PhD thesis titled ‘Ontological Foundations in Contemporary Abstract Art’ at Gazi University Institute of Social Sciences. In his doctoral study in which he researched the ontological foundations of contemporary abstract art, he wrote the ontological foundations of abstract art under the name of ‘The Concept of Analytical Hierarchical Structure in the Global Axis System’ as a scientific theory that ‘has no similarity in the literature, although its source is entirely his own.’ In his works, he uses a special ‘art and design technique’ called ‘Abstractive Pictorial Designs Based on Textural Images’, which he has developed over the years.

The artist, who received the title of Associate Professor in November 2018, continues his studies in the field of design and art at Akdeniz University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphics, and has many articles published in refereed journals on philosophy of art, art ontology, art and design criticism and ‘analytical design theories’.
