What fills the void of religion in a post-god world? This is something I often ask and argue over with myself. I think of the beauty of renaissance, religious art, and the role they can play in an increasingly areligious world. On a purely aesthetic level, I love the work of Michelangelo, but question the inspiration behind his frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, since he was later condemned by the Pope for his belief in Spiritualism. This painting invites viewers to reevaluate their own values in a potentially godless world.
