ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting was the first in my "wave" series. being a lover of the ocean all my life, I've been fascinated by water in all its forms, and most especially the shapes and forms that make up the body of waves. Sometimes calm, and sometimes turbulent. Not unlike life itself. The title for this work "A Tumult of Waves" came from a poem by the Irish poet John Millington Synge 1871-1909 " ...I can see nothing anywhere but a mass of wet rock, a strip of surf, and then a tumult of waves." When I paint the ocean, it's as if I'm on the beach feeling the wind and inhaling the fresh salt air. This is the feeling that I'd like for the viewers of my work to get. I can envision this painting on a wall in an office, facing the desk and the viewer. A small ocean retreat from whatever else is going on in their world.

I was born in New York City and grew up in the Midwest .My Mom, Marietta, gave me my first set of Prang watercolors, and got me started with painting. For that and a lot of other things, I’m forever grateful. My best times have always had something to do with water… either watching it, being on it, or in it. I’ve never had to struggle to find a subject for my art, it was always water in some form. I'd like to get to Nazare in Portugal and paint one of those 100 ft. waves! Right now I’m working on a series of water/wave close ups. For me, being near water, even making a painting of water, gives me a sense of energized calm . My hope and intention is that the people who view my work experience that same feeling.
