About The Artwork

A Vivaldi - The Madonna I have always been captivated by the alluring beauty of the old European churches, and fascinated by just the thought of how they must have constructed such magnificent structures. But what attracts me the most is the colossal statues inside the church. I just stare at them in absolute awe with no words to express myself. Another thing that mesmerizes me are the huge stained glass windows with all their exquisite and intricate detailing of scenes from the Bible. Each scene tells a different story. These windows date back to the 10th century with the construction of Gothic cathedrals. The oldest complete stained glass windows were those of Augsburg Cathedral in Germany constructed in the 11th century. The colored glass is created by adding metallic oxides to the molten glass and then shaping it. The most expensive being the red stained glass, as gold dust is add to the molten glass which gives a deep red hue on cooling. These pieces of glass are held together using strips of lead and hence the thick black lines in between the various colored glass pieces. The whole window is held in place using a sturdy metal framework. These stained glass windows have been around for hundreds of years and still stand strong, this amazes me. I love the feeling of peace and quiet that one experiences on entering a church. Just sitting there in silence and trying to take in every single inch of the alluring beauty is simply divine. This specific stained glass window is at the Catholic Basilica of St. Lawrence in Asheville North Carolina USA. I would love my audience to be able to experience this divine feeling through this piece of art.

The inclination towards painting and art was a natural transition. Being the daughter of an Architect who was an extraordinary artist himself meant that Ritina was exposed to drawings, precision, structure and expression of art from a very young age. Though, she did engage in painting during her academic years, it was more of a hobby and pass time activity whenever she needed to empty her mind and relax, which just faded away unknowingly as if pushed to the back burner. During her formative years, she engaged in a great deal of painting techniques, like fabric painting, art on pottery, and wooden surfaces, all just a source of enjoyment. It wasn’t till very recent times that she really started pursuing this passion seriously. Her works of art have been sold and gifted to a lot of her friends and family. The recent years have been an interesting journey, where she looks back and see’s the transformation of an amateur to a more professional level as an artist. However, the more interesting part has been her enjoying every single moment of this journey. The more she learns, the more she realizes, how much she does not know about the infinite spectrum of art! Living in the peaceful town of Tennessee, USA, has been a blessing, as it has let Ritina explore and express her creativity through every new piece of art she creates. Losing track of time when engrossed in art is so very true for this artist, who toils for perfection, by giving each piece of artwork her true heart and soul. So rightly said in her own words – “Each piece of my artwork is like a piece of me being reflected through it. They are me in the form of a painting.” Guess it is true that when passion becomes profession, you never work again! A self-taught artist, with no training in the field of art and painting, she has reached her present level of skill through practice and watching other artists at work on the internet. She enjoys using various surfaces, mediums and textures for painting and is always keen to try out something new. Doing commissioned artwork is a challenge which gives her an opportunity to stretch her limits even further. Recently, she ventured into portrait painting too, which is a whole new arena by itself. Basically, her preferred medium has always been acrylics, due to its speedy drying time. Sometimes the use of oils, where blending and creating textures, has always been simpler, also indulges her.
