A cautious welcome to depth Painting

At first, this work may seem an untamed collage of witty images, constructed with layer upon layer of mark-making and mark-concealing. Assembled with both found and made images, Tilo's process is to jumble-juggle: pop art here, naive painting there, draftsmanship here and influences from 70's graphics there. Op art and raw mark-making dance into a heady psychedelic landscape. This mercurial experimentation is emblematic of an action and re-action approach to painting. What may start with a media image or Bond girl shadow may later only peer through the much-evolved painting. These works inspire meditation and engagement. Look long to find images that are full of humour, irony and provocation yet taunt us with an indulgent snicker.
