Virginia Urreiztieta is a Venezuelan artist and filmmaker based in Mexico City. Her work focuses on the relationship between states of relaxation and waking spontaneity in order to access her primitive self. Through spontaneous gestures, Virginia seeks to capture a somatic introspective gaze. Her work consists of creating abstract paintings that act as mirrors reflecting the physical act of painting, with expressive and colorful gestures that suggest an aesthetic of pre-linguistic energy. She has produced a visual language that traverses different modes of abstraction, investigating questions of color and form through processes of automatism. A constant in her practice is the emphasis on corporeality, as well as the exploration of color as discourse.
