Part of the artist’s Velvet Series, this softly monotoned artwork is painted on velvet that is gallery wrapped overtop a hardwood panel. This artwork is the result of an extenuated, multi-iterative process which starts with a separate original painting from which the artist captures and adjusts derivative images, then prints a target image to short-pile velvet. The artist then adds abundant layers of translucent paint using various application methods that exaggerate textural differences in the pile, while simultaneously enhancing tonal variations. The resulting painting reflects different saturation levels and textures as the observer changes his or her angle of view.

Stacey Warnix is an American gestural abstraction painter, who works mainly with acrylics and inks overtop raw linen or velvet textiles. A self-proclaimed recovering perfectionist and control freak, she paints to escape a world of precision, finding respite in abstract forms, textures, and tones. ••• The granddaughter of a working artist, Stacey was introduced to the art of painting long before she could read or write. She spent countless family visits alongside her grandmother in studio, learning oil painting techniques and a wide range of mechanical skills. ••• Decades later, while working as an interior designer and home staging consultant, Stacey started painting large scale abstract artwork for use in her staging business and private projects. The need for quicker curing times prompted Stacey to explore new media, including water colors, acrylics, and inks, which now form the core of her artistic practice. Stacey currently works out of a hilltop studio in the bucolic Texas Hill Country, a constant source of inspiration.
