About The Artwork
I discovered a curious new way for me to create. I started this work in an abstract manner and mind set. The foundations were laid by placing layer after layer of paint,as you know. Letting the mind wonder and search and look for the answer, that hook ,that catch as I like to say in abstraction. The Canvas that I created on has multi (4) removable and some interchangeable smaller canvases within the larger perimeter. The viewer can switch and interchange them with the other if you choose. The idea that the YOU the viewer can interact with the art. It's exciting to me especially in a 2 dimensional piece. The theme of the owl came to me when I had met my lady and she had a fondness for owls. From an inspirational state one day as I sat looking at this (background) abstract painting in my studio I took a large Black Graffiti marker and started to draw him into the for ground and world. I discovered a few years ago a style of creative mark making that resembles a sort of contour drawing look and cubist way of creating. I place my mark maker and begin to draw,paint with a sort of non attachment to where I am going and where I came from, only paying attention to the present place in which my tool is placed. All this in an attempted empty or abstract mind...So as a result I achieve intersecting interesting lines and contours that as in the cubist realm seem to reveal angles from all sides. In contemplation I decided to paint the back ground (grey's) (as I like to call it pushing and pulling the for ground,background and all the in betweens to create different levels of depth. There is wisdom in the owl and myths from every corner of the Earth that are quite serious but when one looks at the great owl and it's sense of wisdom and mystique as in most things we forget to see the playfulness of it as well. It is lovely to share space with this creature that I have created.

It is true there are rules and perimeters for making and understanding art better, The elements and principles of design... But once you have a basic idea of those you CAN break them all. People ask what do you paint,create? I feel as though a good artist creates prolifically in multiple disciplines and styles.Paper, pen,canvas,clay,through the lens of a camera.grasping an understanding of everything. Like the leaves or fruit of a tree,reaching up and out BUT also in full spectrum the roots stretching deep and wide,constantly looking for more. Like that of the mind of child, unobstructed and open. As an artist I can create, and make something and get comfortable in a style but to grow one must push ones comfort levels to new places. In abstraction I get to play and experiment with new mediums,styles. With these new techniques I can apply them to my more illustrated works.
