Florinel Agafiţei was born on 17th of November, 1965, in Lueta, Harghita county, Romania. He attends the courses of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi, where he graduates from the Faculty of History and Philosophy, in 1989. In 1999, within the same university, he underlies his doctoral dissertation, a paper which entwines the work of Constantin Brâncuşi with Indian philosophy: “Indian Symbol and Symbolization in the Sculpture of Constantin Brâncuşi”. From 2007, he is a member of the Writers’ Union of Romania – Galaţi branch; author of 15 prose volumes, essays and contributor of several cultural magazines from Romania; he is mentioned in “A History of the Romanian Literature from Its Origins up to the Present Time”, signed by the literary critic and professor, Ion Rotaru. During the same year, he tries to enter the realm of painting. His first exhibition takes place in Focşani, on the 5th of April, 2013 where he exhibits a number of 27 works, most of them landscapes, inspired by a rural settlement located on the banks of the largest river of Moldova, Siret. The following year, the second exhibition – whose title, “Painting at Ciuşlea”, inspired by the same locality situated on the borders of the above-mentioned river – takes place. In 2015, simultaneously with the release of the novel “Doctor Carnabel Street” – whose main character is a troubled painter who plunges into untold adventures – a third painting exhibition takes place at the “House of Collections” Museum of Galaţi. The inspiration of painting remains the aging village, Ciuşlea, with its ever young silver poplar forest, constantly trembling against the wind. The forest, like the village, is captured in various poses: from the frozen winter mornings, specific to the Eastern European steppes, when the Crivetz brings the cold chills of the Siberian north, to the houses collapsed in the light of the different seasons which change their “clothes” in the same ancestral space, whose archaic charm has not yet been destroyed by modern civilization. Inspired by the nature of the place – where everlasting flowers grow and wild beasts roam freely through vast forests – the author paints still life with vases, fruits and flowers, which combine the mystery of the silver rustling poplar forests with that of the Far East for, next to the grass, magically drafted prows from an almost unknown porcelain, that breaks common patterns, the often conveyed known images, spring.
