Abstract Cityscape - Yellow Painting

I am Afshana Sharmeen, an artist from Chennai, and my work reflects the dynamic evolution of India’s urban landscape, while also standing as a testament to my deep commitment to women’s empowerment. My journey in art began after graduating with a degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Anna University Guindy, but it was under the guidance of my mentor, Shri. A.V. Ilango, that I truly found my voice in painting. Over the years, my work has been featured in more than 30 exhibitions both in India and internationally. I’ve been fortunate enough to earn over 25 awards, which have been deeply humbling and affirm the global resonance of the messages I strive to convey through my art. One of the defining moments in my career was being selected for the Salon D’automne in Paris in January 2024—an honor that highlighted the emotional depth and power of my narratives. Most recently, I was privileged to be recognized as an Art Ambassador for India at the "Inspire Inclusion" exhibition, the 7th edition of Art Connects Women, hosted by UNESCO in Dubai. This experience was truly meaningful, as it furthered my mission of promoting hope, inclusion, and empowerment, while also spotlighting the silent struggles that many women endure.
