"Abstract Fantasy Flowers Boats" Painting

Oksana Kulik is a self-taught artist whose creative journey began after a decade-long career as a vector graphics illustrator. With a background in biochemistry and experience working at a research institute, she brings a unique perspective to her art. Inspired by her paternal grandfather, also a self-taught artist who painted portraits and watercolor landscapes, Oksana developed an early fascination with textures and the imaginative possibilities they evoke. The harsh realities of the war in Ukraine, including a two-week occupation without basic necessities, deeply affected her and motivated her to embrace painting more fully. Oksana primarily creates abstract and expressionist works, using bright colors to bring vibrancy and life to her canvases. She paints mostly from imagination, relying on real-life observation only to study structures and textures. Her artistic practice involves layering color spots and refining textures, often working with acrylic and oil on canvas. Through this process, she explores the interplay of color and form, seeking to embellish life and express complex emotions. Oksana Kulik’s work reflects a personal and imaginative approach shaped by her scientific background, family heritage, and the challenging context of contemporary Ukraine.
