My work explores the relationship between form and colour as defined by the internal narrative. My process involves working with layers, thick textural marks and fine brush work to create an expression of innocence and naivety. In this piece I've tried to express the contradictions within the self/ society, and the complexities within... there's a sun, but its black, but its surrounded by the pink glow of the sky around it. There's a being in pain, but is it fury or torment. Is the landscape viewed from an expansive ariel perspective, as if from a plane, or is it a small claustraphobic space that we're trapped within and desperately trying to escape. I do not have a sequential narrative within my work, because I do not believe expression is a simple tale to be told, I believe it is far more complex than that.

Tom Diamantopoulo started his career as a songwriter and musician in the influential band The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster. The band released three albums, released six UK Top 40 singles and toured the UK, Europe and America over the course of ten years. While music kept him busy up until his 30's he continued to pursue his first love - fine art, painting whenever he could. For the past 13 years, he has devoted his time fully to his art, developing and exploring his abstract style. He studied art at Northbrook College in Worthing, completing his art foundation course before going on to do a HND in fine art which would precede his degree at Canterbury. Because of his music career, his education in art was cut short and he was unable to complete his HND and art degree. He now works from his studio in Brighton creating large abstract paintings in oil. He sells his work internationally and was recently shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021. His abstracts are large, colourful paintings, with layers of very thick textural paint, that are rooted in colourism and abstract expressionism. He was born colour blind yet despite this, he continues to explore his love for colour and art; expressing that through his enormous abstract paintings.
