About the Artist – Siong (1949–2008) Siong was a self-taught Indonesian painter whose work lives on through a collection of deeply expressive oil paintings rich in mythology, spirituality, and classical influence. Born with a natural gift for visual storytelling, Siong spent decades exploring the human experience, nature, and faith through his art — often without formal training but with an unrelenting devotion to his craft. His studio was modest, yet his imagination was vast. He drew inspiration from a wide array of sources: biblical scenes, Eastern legends, Western classical masterpieces, and the natural world. From reinterpretations of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper and Mona Lisa, to depictions of mythical beings and cultural heroes, each piece showcases his layered brushwork, emotional intensity, and vibrant color palettes. Siong’s paintings were rarely exhibited during his lifetime. He created primarily for the love of art, for those closest to him, and perhaps as a quiet meditation on the world around him. Since his passing in 2008, his family has worked to preserve and share his legacy — honoring a life lived with passion, humility, and artistic vision. Today, Siong’s artworks stand not only as visual treasures, but as a lasting tribute to a man who painted from the heart, and whose stories continue to speak through every canvas.
