About The Artwork

Artist statement of the Solo show; - Express the anxiety and fear experienced in the process of transitioning from childhood to puberty beautifully by comparing it to the anxiety of modern people Time and space, which once seemed lukewarm, vague, and amorphous, all of a sudden, start to take shape just like a delicate sculpture created at the edge of a blade. And within this time and space, objects in all shapes and sizes come into existence, constantly move around, and die out. Those drastic changes drown the child in complex emotions ranging from relentless sorrow to romantic bliss, leaving her thrashing her arms and legs struggling to find a hold in pitch-dark tunnels, high in the air and in fathomless rivers. Coming to terms with the limitations of the present where the child only knows what happened yesterday, but cannot predict what will happen tomorrow, he or she deals with regrets and sadness, constantly arising and passing away in this unfortunate present, and tries to live a moment at a time being more forgiving and keeping hopes alive however small they are. - To the children suffering in modern society Only when the child realizes that he or she has been changing in all different colors and shapes, all these changes become adventures to explore, and through these changes, the child grows into a being with his or her own unique colors, songs, liveliness, and individuality. The child, who has been floating around, finally gets to find a hold on the ground and starts his or her life in a world where time is limited. With time, however, her songs and colors will be gone.

-Molly has interpreted the alienated presence in modern society as a narrative through the limitations of time-bound humans. Using oil paintings or acrylics on canvas or panels, the artist presents stories in a lyrical and fairy tale bizarre atmosphere, mainly featuring unfamiliar forest landscapes and boys and girls who have not yet grown up. In a post-community society where criticism, prejudice, and irresistible huge discourses abound, modern people unconsciously admit their wrongdoings and end up losing their ego by throwing themselves into the mysterious world like a boy lost in the forest. -The artist projects modern people accustomed to anxiety and loneliness on a boy who is lost in the forest. In particular, she believes that the fear and anxiety of modern people living in the pandemic era have resulted in the ephemeral nature of another life, like the medieval vanitas painting, and that the symbols of loss, wounds, and fears have grown to become wild and huge forests within each of them. -Molly Kim graduated from Ewha Womans University with a major in Clothing and Textiles and has been working as a full-time artist since 2014 after working in the fashion industry for more than 15 years. She had 10 solo exhibitions, including a booth exhibition at Seoul Art Museum and various selected group exhibitions. She has received numerous awards, including the 2019 ASYAAF Hidden Artist selection.
